Cisco Nexus 9500 Cloud-Scale Line Cards N9K-X9716D-GX Overview
Cisco Nexus 9500 Cloud-Scale Line Cards N9K-X9716D-GX is a genuine modular capacity expansion product from Cisco, a leading enterprise networking vendor whose Catalyst, Nexus and ISR families power campus, data-center and branch networks worldwide. Belonging to the Cisco family, the N9K-X9716D-GX unit is built to the original factory specification, so it integrates with existing Cisco deployments predictably and behaves exactly as the platform documentation describes. In the network, it is installed into a compatible chassis slot, where it works alongside the supervisor and line cards to extend the platform’s capabilities.
From a specification standpoint, it offers 16 ports for client, server or uplink connectivity. These are the original factory figures for this model, giving administrators a clear picture of what the unit can deliver before it enters service. Standard mounting, cabling and management practices apply, so deployment follows the same procedures as other Cisco hardware already running in the environment.
Typical deployments include adding ports and performance to existing chassis systems, modernizing legacy platforms with compatible line cards, and mixing copper, fiber and high-speed uplinks in one chassis. Organizations commonly source it for refresh programs, capacity expansion and spares management, keeping a tested unit on hand so outages stay short and replacements are predictable. The factory detail for this unit reads: “16p 400G QSFP-DD cloud-scale line card”. This makes it a practical choice when original-spec hardware is required at a predictable cost.

| Introduction | The 9716D-GX line card uses two instances of the Cisco LS6400GX ASIC to provide forwarding functions, along with eight instances of an ASIC providing both MACSEC and CloudSec encryption capability on all front panel ports. Among the 16 400G ports on each LS6400GX ASIC, 8 ports are used as front-panel ports, and the other 8 ports are used internally to connect to the fabric modules. Figure 17 illustrates the internal architecture of the 9716D-GX line card. |
